The longer I’ve been designing and making bags, the clearer it’s become: I don’t want to work with anything else. Not out of principle, but because natural leather proves itself—every single time. In the workshop, in daily use, and especially over the years.
Natural leather has a quality you don’t need to justify once you’ve experienced it: the scent, the warmth, the living surface. It doesn’t feel “industrially perfect”—it feels honest. And that’s exactly what makes it so beautiful. Small scars, fine grain, subtle variations in texture: those aren’t flaws. They’re character.
Natural leather is tanned exclusively with plant-based tannins—one of the oldest methods there is. Instead of harsh chemicals, it relies on natural agents from plants such as tree bark, olive leaves, or rhubarb root. This process takes time—sometimes weeks, sometimes even months. But that slowness is part of the quality: the leather becomes dense, stable, and durable, while staying true to its natural character. Conventional leather is often coated with polyurethane to create a seemingly “perfect” surface. Natural leather remains what its name promises: a genuine natural material.

Natural leather isn’t made for a single season—it’s made for years, ideally decades. It doesn’t get “worse” with wear; it gets better. It develops a patina, softens, becomes more supple and more personal. Every mark doesn’t signal deterioration—it tells a story. Good leather can be cared for, nourished, and often repaired. It’s a material that stays with you, rather than giving up and ending up as waste.
Leather is an animal product, yes. For my work, I use only hides that come as a by-product of the food industry. To me, that’s a responsible use of resources: if animals are processed anyway, it feels respectful to use as much as possible—and to turn it into something valuable and long-lasting.
For me, natural leather isn’t simply “an option.” It’s the foundation of my work—because it’s authentic and durable, because it can be cared for and repaired, because it’s free from chrome and plastic, compostable, and gentle on the skin.
If you’re looking for a bag that’s meant to stay with you for a long time, then in my view there simply isn’t a good alternative.
